Director of Communications, Europe to Vivino – Copenhagen

Global Communications at Vivino operates across all markets and is responsible for shaping the corporate narrative, internally and externally, and making sure that it is consistent worldwide.   Many of Vivino’s communication tasks are executed by various boutique agencies and include media relations, speaking events, influencer communications, and stakeholder outreach. Because of strong growth and an increased need for Global Communication offerings that focus on market-specific nuances and norms, Vivino is looking to hire its first dedicated Director of Communications, Europe, to manage all regional communications initiatives.

In this role, you will help develop an optimal future set-up, creating a small dedicated in-house team. You work out of Vivino’s HQ in Copenhagen and report to the VP of Global Communications in San Francisco.

Strategy, plans, execution, and primary media touchpoint for stakeholders in Europe

As Director of Communications, you head the European region in close alignment and collaboration with your colleagues in Global Communications. You are the primary touchpoint for media in Europe. You work with regional leadership to prepare them for speaking in the media when appropriate; you ensure they are on-message and media- and presentation-ready. Across your tasks, you ensure that all communications, big and small, reflect Vivino’s brand integrity.

You work across the entire communications value chain, from developing media strategies and value propositions to writing communications content, managing media contacts, conducting research and competitive analyses, and so much more. Some of your primary responsibilities are to:

  • Conduct market and competitive research in priority countries and use findings to develop SWOT analyses.
  • Use data and research to develop regional and country-specific messaging and narrative, and update these continuously. 
  • Develop and manage annual European communications plan (road map for communications) across activities and channels and align with the global strategy.
  • Develop communication launch plans when introducing new markets.
  • Manage in-market agencies, budgets, and KPI’s.
  • Manage reporting process for European media coverage and ensure alignment with external agencies and global teams.  
  • Travel to your stakeholders in local markets and the U.S., approx. 30 days yearly.

An experienced communications executive with passion and an entrepreneurial mindset

We expect you to hold a background in communications or journalism with several years’ experience working with or for international companies, where you have acquired regional or corporate experience and understanding of complex business issues. You hold excellent business and creative writing skills and above-average digital and social media skills, which enable you to identify the proper channels and right stories. You balance your hands-on tasks with a strategic overview and the development of tactical plans. You are fluent in English (written and spoken).

You present yourself as an engaged and dedicated communications executive who is passionate about creating and communicating narratives that motivate and inspire internal and external stakeholders. You also understand that it is not always enough to communicate the right words but that it also requires changes in behaviors and mindsets. In your team, you contribute with structure and plans, and you never lose sight of the overall goals. Towards your stakeholders, you support with clarity, transparency, and advice.
